Additional Information

The style known as “Choro” has been referred to as “classical music played with callused hands and bare feet.”  Just like ragtime in the United States, tango in Argentina and habanera in Cuba, choro sprang up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the tail end of the XIX century, as a result of converging musical influences from Europe and Africa. Carioca does Choro and stepped away from its traditional formation and brings a New Yorker-XXI century-internet influenced society approach to this acclaimed style. James Shipp (Vibraphone), Mike Lavalle (Bass), and Ze Mauricio (Pandeiro/Percussion) are Carioca.  Expect to hear melodies by Choro composers Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Ernesto Nazareth, among others.
